New £26m school in Aintree a step closer after proposals to relocate Archbishop Beck Catholic Sports College

How the new Archbishop Beck school would look if its planned move to Long Lane goes ahead

A NEW £26m high school in Aintree is a step closer after planners backed the project.

Liverpool Council’s planning committee has authorised outline planning permission to allow Archbishop Beck Catholic Sports College to move from its Walton site to a new multi-million building on land occupied by a council depot in Long Lane.

The move is intended to solve traffic problems around the school and offer more indoor and outdoor facilities to help its sports specialist status.

The new school will be double the existing size and include two football pitches and a sports hall allowing for major indoor sporting events.

Headteacher Paul Dickinson said: “The new site in Long Lane will be a great opportunity for the school.

“This is about giving the pupils new curriculum opportunities and new facilities to take students to the next level.”

Liverpool Council has pledged that neighbouring Blessed Sacrament Junior School

will continue to have access to the playing field on the Walton site if the proposal goes ahead.
