THE FUTURE of the proposed Lydiate Marina could be in jeopardy.

At the last Lydiate Parish Council meeting the scheme attracted opposition from residents living near to where the site would be located.

Plans include developing farmer’s land along the west side of the Liverpool-Leeds Canal at Bells Lane.

It will hold up to 135 boats, and is expected to bring £1m from tourism to the local economy.

Lydiate Parish chairman, David Russell said: “About 45 residents who live close to Bells Lane came to the meeting and all were opposed to it.

“People who live on Seafore Close were concerned about their view being ruined and others were concerned about the noise.

“It is unfortunate that the people who attended the meeting were against it, I am sure there is another side where a lot of locals are in favour of the marina, including local businesses as well.

“With the current financial climate, I think it will ensure that local businesses remain viable.
