Mum returns to Asda Aintree store where she gave birth to thank staff

A MUM-of-three who gave birth at an Aintree supermarket returned to thank the staff who delivered her baby girl.

Kelly Burke, 29, of Kirkby, only found out she was expecting a baby two months before her eventful trip to Asda.

But halfway round the store with her partner David Brown and their two children, she began to feel unusual.

She said: “I was having pains but the midwife told me earlier it was not a problem. I wasn’t expecting to give birth for another month.

“I told David to finish off the shopping for baby clothes and would meet him at the tills because I wanted to go to the toilet.”

But the next thing Mr Brown heard was the tannoy, telling him to come to the front of the store.

Ms Burke had slumped over a cash desk and quick-thinking cash-desk supervisors Caroline Graham, 27, from Walton, and Vicky Lynch, 22, from Maghull, took her into the nearby first aid room.

Mr Brown said: “When I found out she was in labour, I thought I should take the kids home. They were scared because of what was happening.

“I took them to wait for a taxi and then I was going to go to the hospital.

“But then one of the check-out girls said ‘do you want to come back and see her’ and ‘you haven’t seen the baby yet’.

“I was just shocked.”
