MARICOURT High School is celebrating a historic first after a blistering display saw them take The ECHO cup for the first time.
Despite sharing the honours with SFX in a draw two years ago U - 14s and staff got the chance to celebrate after last week’s win over the old enemy.
It’s an illustrious win in a competition which has seen players go on to become professionals, including Franny Jeffers, Jack Rodwell and legends like Sammy Lee.
Maricourt manager Mark Barber said: “They were extremely excited, it’s been a carrot we’ve dangled infront of them for some time now.
“They have played 20 games this season and this is the one we’ve been building up to.
“They were a bit nervous but they’ve been in big games before and the experience of playing at Prenton Park was great for them.
“Some of them have experience from the academies, we’ve got three at Everton, one at Wrexham and three in the Sefton Counties.”
It almost looked like a night to forget at the start of the evening after a penalty saw two fines saves from goalkeeper Charlie Taylor, before a third rebound went in.
