Artist's impression of new marina in Lydiate 460
HERE is what the new marina in Lydiate could look like.
The artist’s impression shows how the proposed site will fit in with the environment.
Plans are to develop on farmer’s land along the west side of the Liverpool-Leeds Canal at Bells Lane.
It will hold up to 135 boats, and is expected to bring £1m from tourism to the local economy.
John Keogh from Altside Business Village, who is facilitating the project, said: “As you can see it doesn’t spoil the view or landscape.
“The narrowboats are low-level, they are about 3ft above the water level.
“The marina will help regenerate the area, pubs are closing down through urban decline so this will hopefully reopen pubs which have closed down along the canal.
“Figures from caravan and camping club shows that visitors to caravan sites spend about £30 per unit per day in the local economy, so this will apply to canal visitors here.”
Plans are on display at Maghull Library until Friday, and a planning application will be submitted in June.
